Vietnamese Student Association at Binghamton

With the goal of promoting Vietnam to the members of Binghamton community, VSA has worked together as a family to address issues related to the Vietnamese community, organize cultural and social events and continuously support our members in both academic and social aspects. We have been introducing Vietnamese history, performance arts and cuisines to Binghamton students through annual unique events such as I Love Pho, Saigon Café, Summer Roll Contest and Vietnam Night.
We welcome everyone to come and learn more about this beautiful country, contribute new ideas or simply just become a part of this family.

Flashback: Vietnam Night 2012: A Walk Through Vietnam

Our biggest event of year! On Sunday, April 22nd, VSA delivered eight performances, served six delicacies, and illustrated a unique presentations of the North, South, and Central Vietnam.

One of the memorable moments of the night was the Vietnamese Traditional Hat Dance, also known as the “Maú Nón.” Danced by none other than the girls of the VSA eBoard, the girls twisted, turned, and twirled their way to an amazing performance - all with a surprise ending with the rest of the eBoard members!

It was definitely a night to remember. Thanks to all who helped, supported, and came to our event. Join us next year!

Flashback: VSA & ΣΨΖ present: The Art of Making Summer Rolls

On March 24th, 2012, VSA and the dazzling sisters of Sigma Psi Zeta co-hosted our annual Summer Roll event. We decided to change up the typical workshop and made it an all-out competition. Judged on quality, uniformity, and speed, teams raced to win and to earn the ultimate prize - free tickets to Vietnam Night 2012!

Congratulations to all who participated and special thanks to Sigma Psi Zeta.

Flashback: Spring Semester GIM 2012

On February 14th, we brought in the new semester with a Valentine’s Day GIM! From refreshments to ice breakers, we had the lovely opportunity to meet and reacquaint ourselves with old, current, and prospective members - all while enjoying sweets. While getting a taste of the Vietnamese language, attenders played a round of telephone with the victors receiving personalized goody bags!

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is an amazing up and coming city. This time lapse is a culmination of 10,000 RAW images and multiple shoots capturing some of the cities relentless energy and pace of change.

Everyone who has visited Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam knows part of the magic (love it or hate it) is in the traffic. Ever since I first set foot in HCMC I have been captivated by the
cities energy. Saigon is a city on the move unlike anything I have experienced before which I wanted to capture and share.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the film and thanks also to the numerous kind people who allowed me access to some amazing locations.

Vietnamese Fun Fact #5

One of the most popular Vietnamese traditional garments is the “Áo Dài”, worn often for special occasions such as weddings or festivals. A white Áo dài is the required uniform for girls in many high schools across Vietnam. They were once worn by both genders but today it is worn mainly by females, except for certain important traditional culture-related occasions where some men do wear it.
